In successful businesses, there’s one leader to follow, one value system to believe in, and one process by which to conduct daily operations. Since 1990, our company has been on a journey to become the very best and most-admired surface-preparation equipment manufacturer, and our road to getting there has been filled with many obstacles. But, to help us better navigate through them all, we have discovered a single process called EOS that simplifies everything, so everyone inside our company will understand where we, as a company, are going – and their role in helping us get there.

Our journey began back in 1990 in the garage of a one-bedroom ranch-style home. We did it all; designing, buying, assembling, selling, servicing, and delivering cutters and machines, all to provide a better surface finish to striping and flooring contractors. We had a dream that one day we would build the right company that could deliver the best surface-preparation equipment and cutter tools by a team of smart and talented people who know what it takes to help make the hard removal process (that no one wants to do, especially if our customers are not getting paid for it) to be as fast, easy and reliable as possible, so that customers keep coming back and telling others how great and enjoyable it is to do business with us.

We called our company SMITH, because it was Steven Smith's name that was well known in the pavement-marking industry, serving as President of a large and greatly admired coatings manufacturer. He wanted to leverage the name SMITH to his customers and employees, associating the brand SMITH with quality metal craftsmen which is what SMITH designs, builds, sells, services and delivers with our name proudly front and center to give us no wiggle room to deliver anything but our best – from the best to the best.

Every great company, from Apple, Amazon and Disney to Coke and Starbucks, was built just like ours: with a dream, in a garage, with great people. They hired people – men and women with the right core values – to help them build a company that everyone from employees and customers to vendors, partners and shareholders would admire. There is no real magic to being a great company. Deep down, they all have a collection of people who share their core values; people who are what we call the “Right People” for them.

    A SMITH employee is solutions oriented, meaning we are a helpful resource to our teammates and customers, as well as being innovative and inquisitive in how we can make the hard removal work faster and easier.
