Machinist / Fabricator / Assembler
Reports to: Production Manager

SMITH Manufacturing Co, a leading manufacturer of surface preparation systems, seeks an experienced Machinist with broad manual and skilled labor expertise to join our team. Only locals may apply.

SUMMARY – Perform manual and skilled labor to machine parts and assemble products. Perform minor repairs as necessary.

TRAINING - Please review current procedures as a starting guideline. The following job responsibilities are established as a guide whereby the job will be modified during the first 90 days of employment and thereafter to best serve the needs of the organization.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Machine parts and material to achieve desired objectives
- Operate lathes and mills. CNC vertical mill experience required
- Operate production line machinery and tools
- Troubleshoot production line machinery
- Perform equipment change-overs
- Responsible for quality control. Make adjustments as necessary to produce products within specifications. Reject products outside of specifications
- Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs)
- Operate forklift to maintain raw material supply for the production line when necessary
- Complete daily production logs
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on production line machinery
- Communicate with operators from other shifts
- Clean and maintain work area
- Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use
- Welding experience a plus

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist mechanics and assembler when necessary
- Perform back-up for shipping and receiving activities and warehouse as necessary
- Communicate with purchasing to order raw materials
- Maintain material supply adhering to just in time manufacturing principles

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to read blueprints and technical assembly instructions
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, tools, and computers
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing/engineering environment. Work involves frequent lifting and examining of materials and products. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. Majority of work conducted in non-A/C warehouse style facility.
