Our contractor created this rutting pattern with a waterblaster. What do you recommend?
Removing stripes on asphalt surfaces by waterblasting is a common practice that causes pavement rutting (see image below). The use of high-pressure water washes out the sand and binder materials that hold the asphalt surface together. The rutting allows rain, snow and ice to accumulate, which...

Why are my cutters able to cut faster with my LNX8 using a vacuum system than without?
Removing thick striping materials or working on unswept surfaces cause the rolling wheels to raise and the cutter tips from contacting the surface.
is a best practice to clean the pavement prior to removal and to always remove any cut materials from the surface prior to removing a second pass....

We removed road markings with the LNX 8 and X3 on a grooved concrete surface. Why was it able to remove everything except inside the grooves?
All mechanical orbital or rotary erasers and scarifiers remove materials at a fixed angle depth relative to the position of the wheels on the rolling surface. If the wheels roll up or down a joint (high or low spot) on the road, the cutter will move (up or down) with it. If paint is bonded...

Last night we ran our first test with the LNX8 and had an excellent result, as expected. The only concern is, once we use it on an airport runway, we need to leave the area perfectly clean. Question: The SMITH Maxivac Dust Collector would resolve the airborne particles and powders, but what about debris? How is this usually addressed?
We are glad that you had a good demonstration! Normally, any remaining material on the ground is collected with a separate sweeper following the removal operations.
Remember that after the cutter spindle assembly is adjusted to the proper pitch and depth, you will need to pull the machine...

My client is very interested in the SMITH LNX8 with the Lazy Line Driver. However, I've heard that the best surface finish we will get is by pulling the machine backwards while sweeping the machine left and right. How would the operation be while using the Lazy Line Driver where we PUSH the machine? Can we sweep it too? How is the finish?
The hitch plate on the SMITH LNX8 mounts to the hydraulic rider, whereas you can push the unit forward, backwards, and side-to-side. When walking, the standard operation is to move it backwards and side-to-side. When using a rider, however, you move it forward while guiding the handlebars in a...

How do I avoid pavement scarring with the SMITH LNX8 when removing thermoplastic markings?
Surface scarring when using the SMITH LNX8 Eraser is unusual, unless the machine is not properly set. For best results, always take the following steps:
Before Operation:
Prior to using the equipment, the machine must be outfitted with the correct cutters (24, 48 or 72 pins). The cutter...

I am using the LNX8 to remove striping on concrete surfaces. What is the best way to set-up the equipment?
The equipment should be set for removal on concrete with the correct pitching of the cutters (level), the spring tension (float) and the depth control (tips only contacting the surface). The cutter selection should be a PM3001 for thermoplastic or PM3002 for traffic paint, Caution: increasing...
