We clean paint booths. There are times when the floor is so dirty and has a lot of overspray built up on it that we cannot clean it. We have tried to rent machines from Sunbelt Rental and Home Depot and not had the success we had hoped for. Any suggestions?

SMITH offers solutions for paint build-up on concrete floors and depending upon the size of the booth and frequency of the removal required, we offer a selection of machines from walk-behind to self-propelled models to remove thick coatings.

For any booth under 5,000 SF we would recommend the SPS10 Surface Preparator (gas, propane or electric) outfitted with either our Flail-it or Strip-it cutter drum assembly (fine setup drum array) for use by paint booth operators for knocking down and cleaning up build-up over 50 mils.

The Strip-it cutters are used for removing in a back-and-forth straight pattern, while the Flail-it cutters will leave a smooth finish with the operator sweeping the equipment side to side. Just add a SMITH or other vacuum system to contain all airborne dust and debris and you'll have a smooth clean surface ready to paint again.

Over 5,000 SF, we would recommend the SMITH FS300 model, using the same type of cutter set-up and dust collection system.

The Edcos probably were not outfitted with the correct style of cutters and too light weight and not correctly balanced like the SMITH machines are to correctly control the surface finish pattern for a CSP 2 - 4 profile recommended for this type of application.
