During this difficult time, our community has shown courage, strength and kindness. Our customers have inspired and moved us. We couldn’t be more grateful.
We are very fortunate to be we open for business, and serving our customers and those affected by Hurricane Irma.

Hurricane Irma Recovery

 Hurricane Irma Post Storm Information

Hurricane Irma has passed, and we hope everyone made it through with minimal damage.

Irma was more of an impact than originally hoped for with a west coast landfall. Wind driven surge, strong bands, and embedded tornadoes made for periods of intense rain and wind. Winds here were recorded in the high TS and Cat 1 hurricane levels with the highest gust recorded at 109 mph here in Broward County. We were in the ‘dirty’ or dangerous quadrant, and at one point, officials confirmed multiple tornadoes at once touching down in various parts in Broward County, including Fort Lauderdale International Airport.

SMITH Manufacturing survived remarkably well, and as the initial message indicated, management and the SMITH Team are working hard to get everything back in service. Jackie Placeres is leading the charge and coordinating efforts where we will be fully operational today.

We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this unusual event. We will be responding today and tomorrow to fulfill our customer’s needs via email and phone. All orders will start shipping when freight and package services open tomorrow.

I encourage everyone to be safe during this time, and wish everyone a speedy recovery from this storm.

In closing, I am very proud of our team and their speedy and safe recovery efforts. I want to thank our customer’s and friends of SMITH for their prayers and patience.

  • FEMA Information site for IRMA:

Recovery Tips (Remember most injuries and fatalities happen after the hurricane!)

  • Avoid debris, downed power lines, and flood water, which may be electrically charged and hide dangerous debris or places where the ground is washed away.
  • Avoid downed power or utility lines as they may be live with deadly voltage.
  • Stay away and report them immediately to your power or utility company. Emergency workers may be assisting people in flooded areas or cleaning up debris. You can help them by staying off the roads and out of the way as much as possible.
  • If your home has flood water inside or around it, don’t walk or wade in it.The water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline, or raw sewage.
  • If your power is out, safely use a generator or battery-operated flashlights.
  • Never use a generator inside a home, basement, shed or garage even if doors and windows are open. Keep generators outside and far away from windows, doors and vents.
  • Avoid plugging emergency generators into electric outlets or hooking them directly to your home’s electrical system – they can feed electricity back into the power lines, putting you and line workers in danger.
  • Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated area can also begin applying for Federal assistance by registering online at or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362)

Hurricane Irma Closing

Dear Friends, Family and Customers:
While Hurricane Irma sets its eye on Florida, our prayers and thoughts are with the survivors and victims in its path.
Please be advised that SMITH and others are preparing for evacuations from Hurricane Irma. This storm is a very dangerous Cat 5 hurricane due to hit Florida this weekend.
We have executed our Hurricane plan and are in the process of closing our offices and manufacturing facilities so our employees can prepare and take safe haven from the storm. We hope everyone that is in its path does the same.
Please do not worry, our hurricane plan is strong and our employees have taken early action to mitigate the potential risks to their families and property. Food, water, generators, prescriptions, fuel, and a viable hurricane safety plan are all key items to get done before the storm directly threatens our area.
We will send out a communication to you again as soon as we return and expect business to continue as normal. We appreciate your prayers and patience to this unfortunate interruption of service.
We plan to reopen our offices early next week after assessing any storm damage. If you have questions or need assistance, please click here. I will be monitoring our phones and email for your communication as long as services are available.
Again, stay safe and stay tuned for updates from SMITH or NOAA
